Vietnam's benchmark VN-Index fell 1.36% to 1,028.19 points on Tuesday, continuing its plunge and hitting the lowest since March 20.

The index closed 14.21 points lower after dropping 18.22 points in the previous session.

Trading on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange increased by 47% to VND14.88 trillion ($605.74 million).

The VN-30 basket, comprising the 30 largest capped stocks, saw 20 tickers fell.

MWG of electronics retail chain Mobile World plunged 6.9%, followed by SAB of brewer Sabeco, down 6.75.

SSI of leading brokerage SSI Securities Corporation dropped 6.4% and GVR of Vietnam Rubber Group closed 6.1% lower.

Ten blue chips gained, led by SSB of Southeast Asia Commercial Bank (SeABank) with a 1.8% increase.

Foreign investors were net buyers to the tune of VND305 billion, mainly buying HPG of steelmaker Hoa Phat Group and PVD of PetroVietnam Drilling & Well Services Corporation.

The HNX-Index for stocks on the Hanoi Stock Exchange, home to mid and small caps, droped 2.45% while the UPCoM-Index for the Unlisted Public Companies Market fell 1.64%.
