The index closed 11.60 points higher after losing 13.38 points on Thursday.
Trading on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE) increased by 5.17% to VND21.28 trillion ($895.94 million).
The VN-30 basket, comprising the 30 largest capped stocks, saw 22 tickers gain.
VIC of private conglomerate Vingroup led with a 6.9% rise, followed by STB of Ho Chi Minh City-based lender Sacombank, up 4.3%.
MWG of electronics retail chain Mobile World rose 2.5% and VRE of retail real estate arm Vincom Retail closed 2.3% higher.
GVR of Vietnam Rubber Group fell 1.6% and POW of electricity producer Petrovietnam Power Corporation dropped 1.1%.
Foreign investors were net sellers to the tune of VND61.98 billion, mainly selling HPG of steelmaker Hoa Phat Group and STB of Ho Chi Minh City-based lender Sacombank.
The HNX-Index at the Hanoi Stock Exchange, where mid and small caps list, was up 0.55% while the UPCoM-Index at the Unlisted Public Companies Market was down by 0.19%.
