VPBank VnExpress Marathon HCMC Midnight grants $40,500 prizes

More than 100 prizes worth more than VND1 billion (US$40,500) were awarded to runners with outstanding achievements at VPBank VnExpress Marathon HCM City Midnight on Sunday.

The organizers announced 102 awards for outstanding runners at a ceremony at 9:00 a.m., with more than 11,000 athletes completing the race.

Vietnamese athletes finished first and second in both the full and half marathon distances. The prize structure covered all distances and age groups to motivate and encourage the spirit of runners.

In the full marathon category, in addition to the two age groups of 50 to 59, those over 60 were awarded the top 3, the final prize, and the remaining age groups were awarded the top 5.

Dan Quyet and Hong Le, the male and female runners who won the 42 km distance, received the biggest prizes each worth VND48.7 million ($1,971), including VND25 million in cash, a Garmin watch, and a Nike brand discount coupon.

The male and female runners-up were Truong Van Tam and Nguyen Thi Thuy Van, each receiving a prize of VND42.7 million, including VND20 million in cash.

The third-place prize was worth VND36.7 million (VND15 million in cash). The top 4 and 5 finishers of the full marathon received prizes of VND24.7 million (VND12 million in cash) and VND22.7 million (VND11 million in cash).

Similarly, the half-marathon distance has three final prizes, with prize values from first to third prize being VND26.2 million, VND23.2 million, and VND20.2 million.

In the men's category, the first, second, and third prizes went to Le Huu Loc, Do Duy Thang, and Le Nhan Tin. The female winner in the half marathon was Doan Thi Oanh; Cao Thi Thanh Thuy ranked second and third place was Le Thi Ha.

In the 10km distance, Nguyen Dang Khoa, Lai Terence, and Nguyen Van Loi were the top male finishers who received prizes worth VND9 million, VND7 million, and VND5.5 million, respectively. The three female athletes receiving the same prizes were Tran Thi Hanh An, Alison Pratt, and Nguyen Thi Huong.

In the 5km distance, the champion male and female runners received VND8 million, first runners-up VND6 million and second runners-up VND4.5 million.

Age group awards will be verified by the organizing committee and notified to runners later.

This year, both full and half marathons have prizes in age categories. Specifically, in the 42km distance, the top athlete of each age group (under 30, 31 to 39, and 40 to 49) will receive cash and in-kind rewards of equal value. receives VND13 million, the second finisher VND11 million, third VND9 million, fourth VND8 million and fifth VND7 million.

The top three runners of the two age groups, 50 to 59 and over 60, receive rewards worth VND7.5 million, VND5.5 million, and VND4 million.

With 21 km, the top finisher of each group (under 30, 31 to 39, and 40 to 49) will receive a reward of VND11 million; the second VND9 million; and the third VND7 million. Top finishers of age groups 50 to 59 and over 60 will receive VND6.5 million, second finishers VND4.5 million, and third finishers VND3 million.

The VPBank VnExpress Marathon Ho Chi Minh City Midnight kicked off on March 3, attracting 11,000 runners. This year, the tournament adjusted the starting time: 10km at midnight; 5km at 0:30. The full marathon started at 1 a.m. and half marathon at 2 a.m.

From 2024, Vietnam Prosperity Joint Stock Commercial Bank (VPBank) will accompany VnExpress Marathon to organize the VPBank VnExpress Marathon Ho Chi Minh City Midnight (VVMM), lasting for 5 years.
