Criticized by her boyfriend for being “ugly and fat,” Nguyen Duong Hong Han was determined to change her appearance and successfully lost 25 kg in six months through healthy eating and regular exercise.

Han, 24, a beauty content creator, shared that her life has turned a new page after her remarkable transformation journey.

Once a charming young woman with a slender figure, weighing 48 kg, Han fell into extreme stress after graduating from the Vietnam Aviation Academy in 2023, unable to find a clear direction in her career.

Feeling devastated, struggling with insomnia, and frequently eating late at night to cope emotionally, Han’s weight spiraled out of control. By August of the same year, her weight peaked at 73 kg.

"I was shocked and couldn’t face that unfamiliar appearance," Han said, adding that she felt insecure and ashamed around her family and friends and even avoided the gaze of strangers.

Since her work involved maintaining her image, the weight gain significantly impacted Han. From a girl who used to wear size S-M clothes, she could now only fit into oversized outfits.

As her appearance on camera became less appealing, Han began to face rejection from brands. Collaboration offers dwindled, and her boss frequently complained about her weight, adding even more pressure to her work.

At that time, her boyfriend often teased her with comments like "fat pig" and "snorer."

"Even though he always said those were just jokes, I felt deeply hurt but only kept it to myself," Han shared, adding that the two eventually broke up due to constant arguments.

"Not long after, he started dating another beautiful, petite girl," she said. "I felt deeply hurt and kept thinking that it was because I was overweight that my boyfriend left me."

In addition to the emotional toll, Han also faced several health issues. Excess fat made her body feel heavy, leaving her frequently tired and lacking energy. She also experienced six months of missed periods without a clear cause. The doctor explained that one reason for this condition was her rapid weight gain. If she didn’t control her weight, she could face more serious health issues, including risks of cancer or infertility.

From that point on, she was determined to change in order to regain both her figure and her health.

Han began her weight loss journey by trying various methods, including the Keto diet (low carbohydrate and high healthy fat), intermittent fasting, Liu Yifei’s eating method, and calorie deficit eating. Among these, the calorie deficit approach proved to be the most feasible, according to Han.

"The calorie deficit method is suitable for many people, easy to follow, safe, and doesn’t cause fatigue or disrupt daily life," she explained.

This principle requires that calorie intake through diet always be less than the calories burned. According to WebMD, there are two ways to create a calorie deficit: by reducing food intake or by increasing physical activity. However, combining both methods can lead to healthier, safer, and more effective weight loss. A calorie deficit is the most critical factor in weight loss, distinguishing it from restrictive diets that can lead to energy deficiencies.

Han prioritized steamed and boiled dishes while limiting sugar, starch, unhealthy fats, and processed foods. She also avoided eating late at night and staying up late.

In addition to adjusting her diet, Han incorporated gym workouts, running, and skipping rope alternately to enhance the fat-burning process.

Exercising helps the body burn calories and creates the energy deficit needed for weight loss. Research has shown that overweight men can lose an average of 3.5 kg in three months by exercising for at least 30 minutes a day. To achieve optimal weight loss results, individuals need to consider factors such as calorie consumption, workout duration and frequency, nutrition, and rest periods.

Han’s weight dropped to 48 kg, with measurements of her chest, waist, and hips at 90 cm, 62 cm, and 95 cm, respectively.

Successfully transforming her figure opened up many opportunities for Han in her career. It also helped her move past her previous relationship and become more confident and optimistic.

"This is probably the most meaningful journey for me," Han said.
