Traveling from Da Nang to central Quang Nam Province, a groom experiencing an abnormally high temperature and unable to pass, became engaged to his wife at a coronavirus checkpoint.

On the morning of May 13, a family traveled to Quang Nam's Dai Loc District for the engagement ceremony of their son. But when they reached the Covid-19 checkpoint at Dai Hiep Commune, local medics found the groom had a higher than normal temperature, according to local authorities.

As medics advised them not to pass the checkpoint, the family called the bride's family, who later traveled to the checkpoint for the engagement ceremony.

"The groom's family called the bride's and happily agreed to hand over wedding presents at the checkpoint. Everyone maintained social distancing and adopted Covid-19 preventative measures," a local leader said.

After the ceremony, they returned home. The groom later had his body temperature checked once more, revealing it to be normal.

"It was an important day for the family, but the pandemic is complicated, so it is crucial to not gather and control people traveling to the area, and advise them to be on guard," the district official maintained.

Since the new wave broke out on April 27, Vietnam has reported 824 new local cases of Covid-19 in 26 cities and provinces.

Of them, 198 are in Hanoi, with 110 in two hospitals under lockdown, 177 are in northern Bac Ninh Province, 122 in northern Bac Giang Province, 115 in Da Nang, and three in Quang Nam.
