Xu Jianfeng, 27, an information technology technician, and his wife, Shi Qian, 28, a teacher, were sentenced by a court in Selangor, Malaysia, on Monday, The Straits Times reported.

On Feb. 9, Xu stripped to his underwear near a KLIA2 boarding gate while Shi undressed at another terminal.

The couple told Malaysian media they had been in emotional distress after hypnotizing themselves in a psychological game, with Xu calling himself the "king of the universe" and Shi an "AI robot."

They were arrested at the terminal and taken to a hospital before being discharged.

The pair later apologized through local media for their actions, which delayed their flight.

The couple had been on holiday in Malaysia since Feb. 5.

When they failed to return to China as scheduled on Feb. 9, a family member posted on Chinese social media seeking information about them.
