My girlfriend believes men should cover all expenses

When I suggested my girlfriend financially contribute to one in every five or six dates, she firmly responded that her principle is that men should always pay when dating.

I’m 27, and my girlfriend is 26. We’ve been together for almost two years. I earn around VND18-20 million (US$710-$788) monthly, saving VND10 million and giving my parents VND2 million for utilities since I live with them. The rest mostly goes towards outings and buying things for her. Her salary is similar to mine, but she only budgets VND5 million for her monthly expenses.

This year, she mentioned not wanting to celebrate her birthday due to the cost. Feeling bad, I bought her a gift and booked a restaurant to create a special moment. She seemed pleased, but the next day, she held a birthday party with her friends, and the day after, one with her colleagues without me. When I asked why I wasn’t invited, she said we had already celebrated together.

Recently, she brought up marriage, saying she planned to switch to a lower-paying job to have more time. She explained that she would need to financially support her family and cover her personal expenses, thus expecting me to handle all household costs if we lived together.

However, her cooking isn’t great, and she’s quite disorganized when cleaning, often leaving things lost. She doesn’t even wipe the table after meals, and I usually end up washing the dishes while she scrolls through her phone. Whenever I raise these issues, she gets upset and threatens to break up. Even my mother has noticed this, questioning why my girlfriend demands so much without sharing responsibilities. So her plan doesn’t seem appealing to me.

Is it time for me to end the relationship?
