Hanoi photography exhibition showcases local craft

Linh Pham, founder of Matca Space for Photography, where the exhibition is being held, said about the event: [It] shows art lovers that photography is not only about taking photos. In the exhibition, the story is told through cut-outs and superposed photos, highlighting local craft.

The organizers said: "There is a particular vitality in Asian countries linked to lifestyle transformation and an ‘everything is possible’ mindset."

A "storybox collection" will showcase boxes made of hand-cut pictures, made by local craftsmen and craftswomen, using paper, raw wood and glue, combining photography and craft to give the art form a new look.

Punk Dragon infuses this energy in its creative process to showcase Asian heritage and "kitsch" with a contemporary twist, showing daily life in a different perspective, they added.

The exhibition, at 48 Ngoc Ha, Ba Dinh District, from May 13 to 29, is part of a month-long project in May called ‘Photo Hanoi '21’ organized by the French Institute in Hanoi - L'Espace.

It will feature a series of exhibitions, seminars and workshops in Hanoi highlighting the diverse practices in taking and displaying photographs.
