Taiwanese singer Lawai Arik dies at 36 in stage accident

Singer Lawai Arik died at the age of 36 after falling 20 meters during a stage setup in Taipei, as reported by local media.

Next Apple detailed that the incident occurred on Dec. 25, 2024, as Lawai Arik was preparing a stage for a New Year’s celebration, leading to his fatal fall from the scaffolding.

A friend of Lawai Arik noted on social media that the event organizers have yet to provide a clear explanation for the accident to his family. They also highlighted that construction was permitted to resume merely 24 hours after the accident, despite its severity.

The friend shared the deep sadness Lawai Arik’s friends experienced while watching the New Year’s Eve celebration, which proceeded at the location of the tragic accident.

"From now on, Christmas and New Year will always be painful for his family and friends," they stated.

Before the accident, Lawai Arik had shared his reflections on the approaching year’s end, his ongoing music projects, and a newly composed song on social media. Following the accident, a family member expressed gratitude on his social account: "We are grateful to every friend who has been part of Lawai Arik’s life."

"Thank you to those who have supported Lawai, and to those who guided him to his musical journey," this person added. "Meeting all of you was a blessing in Lawai Arik’s 36 years. May God bless your lives and careers."

Lawai Arik was the lead singer of the band Ark of Redemption and had a decade of experience in stage lighting, managing the lighting for numerous music programs.
