Citing sources QQ and Sohu, Dan Tri Newspaper reported that speculations of Hong’s involvement with a social media influencer during his relationship with makeup artist Cao Yingxin have resurfaced following his and Wu’s marriage announcement. The allegations include speculations that the actor’s infidelity contributed to the end of his and Cao’s relationship in 2014, just a year after they met on the dating show "Fei Chang Wan Mei."
The controversy has resulted in public backlash against Hong.
Hong and Wu made headlines with an unexpected marriage announcement on Friday. They shared images of their marriage certificate and themselves in matching white shirts on a red backdrop on Weibo, with captions stating "Got it today" and "Married today." This sudden news has fueled speculation that Wu may be expecting.
In 2019, speculation that the pair were dating arose after they were reportedly seen vacationing together in Bali, Indonesia. However, Wu refuted the claim at the time, according to The Straits Times.
Both Wu, 34, and Hong, 32, gained significant recognition for their roles in the 2017 hit period drama "Story of Yanxi Palace." Set in the Qing dynasty, Wu portrayed Wei Yingluo, a palace maid who ascends to become the emperor’s favored and influential concubine, while Hong played Prince He, also known as Hongzhou, the emperor’s younger brother.
