On Sept. 25, the 37-year-old actor revealed on his personal YouTube channel that during a routine check-up in October of last year, doctors discovered abnormalities that were later confirmed as thyroid cancer. Shocked by the diagnosis, Jang recalled his initial reaction, thinking, "Am I going to die?" He admitted that hearing the word 'cancer' left him filled with fear and uncertainty, and it took time for him to process the news.
In April, after being notified of his surgery date, he halted all his professional activities to prepare for the procedure, which took place in May. The six-hour surgery was successful, and after several follow-up exams and tests, Jang's condition is now stable, and his health has returned to normal.
Jang shared that he hopes his story can offer support to others going through similar struggles. Reflecting on his journey, he said it has helped him embrace a more positive outlook on life.
Most recently, Jang appeared in the South Korean Netflix reality series "The Influencer," which premiered on August 6. He rose to fame for his roles in "Beethoven Virus" (2008) and "You're Beautiful" (2009), the latter earning him the nickname "Asia Prince" for his popularity in Japan and Southeast Asia.
In 2011, Jang became the first non-Japanese artist to debut at number one on Japan’s Oricon singles chart with his Japanese EP "Let Me Cry."
