In the image uploaded on Friday, the prince and his wife are dressed in coordinated white and beige outfits, posed against the vibrant greenery of a meadow, trees, and a gravel pathway.
This vacation in Tuscany is the royal pair’s first private getaway since their January wedding, as Prince Mateen’s royal responsibilities–including accompanying his father, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei, on numerous official journeys– have kept him busy.
Tuscany is a favored romantic destination for celebrity couples on their honeymoons, with American actor George Clooney and British lawyer Amal Alamuddin, American socialite Kim Kardashian and rapper Kanye West, and American actress Jessica Biel and singer Justin Timberlake all spending their honeymoons in this Italian region.
Prince Mateen, 32, a polo player representing Brunei in the 2017 and 2019 SEA Games, was listed as one of Asia’s most eligible bachelors by Tatler Magazine in 2016.
Anisha, 29, is an entrepreneur with a degree from the University of Bath in the U.K. and co-founder of a cultural tourism business. She hails from a distinguished family well-connected to the Sultan of Brunei.
Her grandfather Pehin Dato Isa, now an advisor to the Sultan, played a pivotal role in the government during the 1960s and 1970s.
Her brother Danial Deen Isa-Kalebic is a close friend of Prince Mateen, and her sister-in-law Janetira Attaskulchai Deen is linked to Thailand’s Attaskulchai family, owners of the Betagen yogurt company.
The couple’s wedding celebrations, held from January 7-16 in the capital of Brunei, Bandar Seri Begawan, were attended by about 5,000 guests, including international dignitaries.
