Citing Sinchew, Znews reported that during this year’s Filmart, an event organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council to promote film industry collaboration, Koo shared that he had been asked whether he would be willing to film fully nude scenes—an idea he once would have immediately rejected.
"Times have changed. I don’t mind performing fully nude scenes now," he said. "My only concern is that such films might receive an 18+ rating, limiting their audience."
Remarking about the state of Hong Kong’s film industry, the actor said: "I still believe in Hong Kong cinema, just not so much in the economy. I’ve never seen Lunar New Year box office results so dismal."
Koo’s comments followed the underperformance of his latest film, "Hit N Fun," which fell short of industry expectations despite being the highest-grossing Hong Kong title during the Lunar New Year season. The film earned HK$5 million (US$642,800) in its opening week and closed the holiday run with HK$7.47 million.
At this year’s annual meeting of the Federation of Hong Kong Filmmakers, where he serves as president, Koo also expressed concern over the industry’s financial struggles, noting that even reducing his own salary hasn’t been enough to attract investors.
"The issue is no longer about whether I cut my fee," he said. "Even if I do, no one is investing in films."
Now 55, Koo began his acting career in television dramas produced by TVB, gaining popularity through roles in "The Condor Heroes," "Detective Investigation Files IV," and "A Step into the Past." His performances in the late 1990s helped him build a strong following across Asia.
