During a livestream on Jan. 22, Liu disclosed that she does not even know who her father is and that she took her mother’s surname. She explained that when she was born, her family did not prioritize registering her birth, which has resulted in conflicting reports about her age.
In her younger years, Liu publicly claimed she was born in 1955, later revised it to 1952, and her current documents list 1950 as her birth year, making her 75 years old. Liu said she accepts 1950 as her birth year, as she feels her personality aligns with the traits of those born in the Year of the Tiger.
While Liu described her mother’s discipline as strict, she said her grandmother was gentle and cared for her with meticulous attention.
"Whether gentle or strict, they are family members I deeply love," Liu said. "I was very obedient to both my grandmother and mother."
Liu also shared that her mother remarried, and her stepfather treated the family exceptionally well. She described him as the most gentle person she had ever met, noting that no matter the situation, he remained optimistic and prioritized others over himself.
Liu is a celebrated figure in Chinese cinema, known for her iconic roles in "Wu Zetian," "Huoshao Efang Gong," "Huo Fenghuang," "Hibiscus Town," and "A Dream of Red Mansions."
At the height of her career in 2002, Liu faced an investigation for business law violations and tax evasion, which led to 442 days in prison. Despite this setback, she gradually rebuilt her career, demonstrating her talent in both film and television. Liu remains active in the industry, regularly attending events and taking on new acting projects.
