According to Malaysian news outlet Hype, speculation suggests Chen Xiao and Mao’s on-screen chemistry blossomed into an off-screen relationship, potentially playing a role in the dissolution of his marriage.
Public scrutiny has focused on their close interactions during filming, with observers noting numerous intimate moments. Adding fuel to the fire, there are reports that Chen Xiao’s agency has been deleting comments related to his alleged romance with Mao, possibly indicating an attempt to conceal the relationship.
Despite this, a source close to the actors claims the rumors are true and hints at a potential official announcement.
Chen Xiao, 38, is recognized for his roles in popular TV series such as "Palace 3: The Lost Daughter," "Swordsman," and "Nothing Gold Can Stay."
His former wife Michelle Chen, 42, is best known for her iconic role in the 2011 film "You Are the Apple of My Eye" and her appearance on the 2021 season of "Sisters Who Make Waves."
The former couple met on the set of "The Romance of the Condor Heroes" in 2013, where Chen Xiao reportedly developed a secret admiration for Michelle Chen. He proposed in 2015 with a custom statue depicting her character, presented on a rose-adorned yacht. They married in Beijing in 2016 and share an eight-year-old son Chen Muchen known as Little Star.
Their divorce was made public in February.
Mao, 38, is celebrated for her supporting roles in acclaimed dramas like "Empresses in the Palace," "Love O2O," and "The Princess Weiyoung."
