Casino mogul Stanley Ho's daughter Josie cancels Taiwan performance to support husband amid health setback

According to The Star, Ho was originally scheduled to perform at a concert in Taiwan on Aug. 10. However, in a public statement, the actress said she would be stepping away from work commitments to accompany her husband for urgent medical treatment.

"My husband of 21 years experienced sudden discomfort recently, and after a medical evaluation, the doctor advised immediate surgery in the U.S.," she said. "As his wife, I must be by his side throughout the process. All necessary medical plans have been arranged."

Chan, 53, previously suffered a life-threatening ruptured aorta in 2022, which led to severe internal bleeding. Although his condition had steadily improved and he had resumed public appearances in recent months, doctors have now advised immediate surgical intervention in the U.S.

In Dec. 2023, Chan revealed he was preparing for two operations—one minor and one major procedure involving the aorta near his heart. At the time, doctors recommended postponing the more serious operation unless his condition worsened, stressing the importance of maintaining heart stability.

The couple married in 2003 in Australia and co-founded a film production company in 2007. They have publicly stated their decision not to have children, focusing instead on their creative and business pursuits.

Ho, the daughter of the late Macau casino tycoon Stanley Ho, began her entertainment career in 1994 and has since built a reputation as a versatile performer in both film and music. Her father passed away in 2020 at the age of 99. In 2019, Bloomberg estimated his net worth at US$14.9 billion, ranking him among the region’s wealthiest individuals.

Following his death, the majority of Stanley Ho’s fortune was distributed among his daughter Pansy Ho, fourth wife Angela Leong, and son Lawrence Ho.
