According to The Star, the 34-year-old actress missed the event, which took place at Hong Kong’s Ocean Terminal on Dec. 14, reportedly due to losing her passport. In an interview with Hong Kong media, Wong, 69, expressed his disappointment and accused Lin of lacking commitment to the project.
"If she truly cared, she would have arrived on time," Wong said.
When asked whether he thought Lin’s explanation about losing her passport was a cover-up, he declined to pass judgment, stating that he neither knew her personally nor had a close relationship with "Haunting Call" director Danny Pang.
The filmmaker also made it clear that such behavior would not be tolerated on his own films.
"At most, I wouldn’t cast her in my next movie as I find it unethical," he added. "It all comes down to how much you value the film. Just because you’ve had one or two successful projects doesn’t mean you’re the greatest."
Dimsum Daily reported that Lin acknowledged her mistake in missing the premiere and offered her sincere apologies, adding that she spoke directly to Pang about the issue.
In a follow-up interview, Pang confirmed that Lin had reached out through her representatives to apologize. He mentioned that Lin’s absence had consequences, including the loss of sponsorship for the event.
"It’s important to remember that we are all professionals," Pang stated. "It’s not a matter of life and death. She has shown sincerity in her apology, and I believe that’s worth forgiving."
When questioned about the truth of Lin’s claim regarding her missing passport, Pang said: "Initially, it seemed implausible. However, given the time that has passed, I find myself starting to believe her explanation."
He chose not to press for further details, preferring instead to move forward without dwelling on the past.
Lin debuted as a singer in Taiwan and began her acting career in 2016. She gained recognition in Hong Kong for her role in the 2017 horror romance film "Vampire Cleanup Department" and has since appeared in various Hong Kong productions.
