As reported by Asiaone on Oct. 3, social media users on Xiaohongshu shared photos and videos of their interactions with these men, dubbed the Salesmen, who posed the question, "Would you like to play a game with me?" This scene is reminiscent of a pivotal moment from the show.
Participants engaged in ddakji, a traditional Korean game highlighted in the series, where the objective is to flip over a folded paper square of the opponent. This activity mirrors an episode from the first season where the character Seong Gi-hun, played by Lee Jung Jae, is drawn into the game by a Salesman portrayed by Gong Yoo. Fortunately, unlike in the show, losing participants in the subway stations were not subjected to being slapped.
Variety noted that "Squid Game" reached unprecedented success on Netflix, becoming its most-watched show ever with 1.65 billion hours streamed within the first four weeks of its release on Sept. 17, 2021. It remains unparalleled in popularity among non-English Netflix titles to date, according to TBI.
The second season of "Squid Game" continues the story of Gi-hun, also known as Player 456, who re-enters the lethal competition three years after his initial ordeal, with a grand prize of 45.6 billion won (around U.S.$33.7 million) on the line.
His motive this time includes seeking vengeance against the Front Man, played by Lee Byung Hyun. The new season, set to debut on Netflix on December 26, features a cast including singer-actor Im Siwan, actors Kang Ha Neul, Wi Ha Joon, Park Sung Hoon, actress Park Gyu-young, and former BigBang member Choi Seung-hyun (T.O.P), with Gong Yoo returning as the Salesman.
