Their draw Monday put Vietnam into group B with Australia, Myanmar and Timor Leste in the 2022 AFF Futsal Championship.

After advancing to the round of 16 in Futsal World Cup last year, Vietnam have climbed to 38th on the world ranking, only five places below Australia. In the 2019 AFF Futsal Championship, Vietnam beat Australia 2-0.

Myanmar (90th on the world ranking) and Timor Leste (110th) are much weaker teams, so the top spot of group B will be a competition between Vietnam and Australia.

Group A comprises of Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia and Brunei.

AFF Futsal Championship will be held at Huamark Indoor Stadium in Bangkok from April 3 to 12, 2022.

The tournament this year will see the top three teams earn tickets to AFC Futsal Asian Cup in Kuwait later this year.

To prepare for this competition, the national futsal team has called up 22 players. As planned, the team will train in Vietnam until Mar. 21, then travel to Thailand and play three friendlies before the main event.
