A 3-0 win over Lebanon Monday night has helped Vietnam qualify for the 2024 U20 Women's Asian Cup football tournament.

Sixteen-year-old forward Ngoc Minh Chuyen scored twice and captain Le Thi Bao Tram scored the other to secure the win in Viet Tri Stadium in Phu Tho Province.

With their previous 3-2 win over Iran Vietnam got six points, the same as Australia but second on goal difference.

The two teams have qualified for the main event and will play each other on Wednesday to decide the group's top spot.

In March Vietnam came through the first qualifiers with 3-0 and 11-0 wins over Indonesia and Cambodia and a 1-1 draw with India.

Besides Australia and Vietnam, four other teams have also qualified: hosts Uzbekistan, defending champions Japan, runners-up North Korea, and third-placed South Korea.

The remaining two teams will qualify from group B from among Myanmar, mainland China, Nepal, and Taiwan.

Vietnam have qualified for the U20 Women's Asian Cup six times before, with their best run so far being in 2004 when they advanced to the quarterfinals.

The 2024 event will be held from March 3 to 16 next year with the eight teams divided into two groups.

The top three finishers will qualify for the 2024 U20 Women's World Cup.
