To make room for Oseni, SLNA had to release Ghanaian attacker Mohammed Basit due to the limited number of foreign players a club is allowed to have in V. League. Basit scored the winning goal in the first round, but had a disappointing performance in the second, with SLNA losing the game.
Oseni, 31, has been playing football in Vietnam since 2011 for many V. League clubs. In 2018, he was the top scorer of V. League while playing for Hanoi FC and voted the best foreign player that year.
SLNA had a major financial boost this season thanks to a new sponsor and have been quite active in the transfer window. Before Oseni, they also signed several quality domestic players, especially former national captain Que Ngoc Hai.
HAGL have gone through two rounds of V. League with two goalless draws and still seek their first win.
