Vietnam's current best midfielder Nguyen Quang Hai has reached a preliminary agreement with an Austrian club and is set to sign a contract in May.

Austrian Football Bundesliga club LASK is most likely Hai's next destination. Both sides have reached an agreement and the contract is waiting to be signed.

LASK has finished the first stage of this season at eighth. In the second stage, they are trying to avoid relegation. Hai will keep an eye on LASK's performance until the end of the season before making his final decision. At present, Hai can still consider other offers.

If there are no big changes, Hai and his crew will go to Germany then Austria to complete the last steps of the deal, including a medical and visit to the club's facilities before signing a three-year contract with LASK.

LASK were established in 1908 in Linz, Austria. The last time they won the Austria Football Bundesliga was in 1965. In the last season, they finished third behind Red Bull Salzburg and Rapid Wien.

In the 2019-2020 season, LASK advanced to the Europa League round of 16, where they lost 1-7 to Manchester United.

Hai has been through six professional seasons with Hanoi, playing 126 games and scoring 35 goals. At 24, he has won every domestic title, including three V. League titles, two National Cups, three Super Cups and the 2018 Vietnam Golden Ball.

At national level, Hai helped Vietnam win the 2018 AFF Cup, 2019 SEA Games gold medal and advance to the final round of World Cup qualifiers. Head coach Park Hang-seo said he is the best attacking midfielder in Vietnam.

His old club Hanoi FC have tried to negotiate with Hai over a contract extension. However, he refused because he wants to play football abroad.
