Following Indonesia's emphatic 3-0 victory over Vietnam in the World Cup qualifier Tuesday, coach Shin Tae-yong said Vietnam were not getting weaker, but Indonesia players had better cohesion.

The match, held at My Dinh Stadium in Hanoi, saw Indonesia break a two-decade streak of draws and losses at this venue against Vietnam. Despite the historic win, coach Shin remained modest, attributing a portion of their success to fortune and the hard work of his players.

The game statistics highlighted a challenging match for Indonesia, managing only 31% possession and fewer shots than Vietnam. However, their efficiency in front of the goal was remarkable, with three of their shots finding the net.

Key contributions came from naturalized players Jay Idzes and Ragnar Oratmangoen, whose goals in the first half set the tone for the match. Indonesia's strategic play and ability to neutralize Vietnam's pressure allowed them to secure a third goal in the match's dying minutes, ensuring their largest victory over Vietnam under Shin's tenure.

Despite the win, Coach Shin was quick to defend Vietnam's team, suggesting their lack of cohesion was a temporary issue rather than a decline in quality. He highlighted the adjustments both teams have made in recent times, including Indonesia's growing adaptation to his coaching philosophy post-Covid-19, which has fostered a more unified team spirit.

This victory positions Indonesia favorably in Group F, enhancing their prospects for advancing to the next qualifying round for the 2026 World Cup. With home advantage in their upcoming matches against Iraq and the Philippines, Indonesia aim to secure their progression in the tournament.
