Nam Dinh FC's Brazilian striker Rafaelson was among the highest goal scorers in the world last year, according to football site Transfermarkt.

In its 2023 goal statistics for national leagues, Rafaelson ranked 13th with 27 goals in 26 matches, averaging one every 84 minutes.

He scored 16 goals while playing for Binh Dinh FC in the 2023 season, and 11 in the first half of the 2023-2024 season after his transfer to Nam Dinh.

Of the top 15, three players play in Asia, the other two being Kodjo Fo Doh Laba of Al Ain FC, UAE, who scored 27 goals in 26 matches, and Cristiano Ronaldo of Al-Nassr FC, Saudi Arabia, who scored 34 in 34 matches.

Most of the others in the list play in top European leagues like Harry Kane of Bayern Munich, Germany, who scored 38 goals in 37 matches, Kylian Mbappe of PSG, France, who scored 34 in 35 matches, and Erling Haaland of Man City, England, scoring 29 in 35 matches.

Rafaelson has scored nearly half of Nam Dinh’s 28 goals and also had three assists.

His tally is higher than the total number of goals scored by six V. League clubs, and double the number scored by LPB Hoang Anh Gia Lai, The Cong Viettel and Sanna Khanh Hoa, who have six goals each.

In the history of the V. League the top performance by a foreigner has been Argentine Do Merlo's 24 goals in 2016.

The best overall has been Le Huynh Duc with 25 goals in the 1996 season.
