A popular South Korean reality TV show that follows the adventures of celebrities featured Vietnamese pho noodle soup and coffee in a recent episode.

"Battle Trip" hailed pho as Vietnam’s must-try street food in a segment shot in Ho Chi Minh City with actor Kim Tae Hoon and writer Jo Seung Yeon.

The two visited Pho Bac near the Bitexco financial tower in District 1 to try a bowl of the traditional beef noodle soup.

Their biggest impression was that the noodles in Vietnam are very soft.

"The noodle soup was really delicious," Kim said.

In South Korea, when it comes to Vietnamese cuisine, pho is always top of the mind and so it would be the first dish South Koreans want to try while traveling to the country, he said.

A bowl of pho bo (beef noodle soup) in HCMC costs VND30,000-50,000 (US$1.32-2.20).

The duo also visited the Bui Vien Street backpacker area in District 1 and tried typical Saigonese coffee.

"At first Koreans will not be familiar with the taste of Vietnamese coffee because it is probably a bit stronger and more bitter than the Korean way of drinking coffee," Jo said.

Kim said Vietnam is his second home since he has "fallen in love" with Vietnamese food.

"Battle Trip," aired on Korean Broadcasting System on Saturdays, features celebrities and their various travel destinations.
