Authorities in the Chinese province of Sichuan are investigating a restaurant for offering a free meal to anyone who can eat 108 spicy wonton dumplings.

The owner of the restaurant in Yibin City could face a fine of 10,000 yuan (US$1,400) if found violating the country’s anti-food waste law, CNN reported.

According to the authorities, the restaurant had advertised the promotion on social media, offering a free meal and additional prizes for eating 108 chaoshou.

The Chinese government passed a law two years ago to curb excessive food consumption and waste.
