The U.S. dollar has risen to a new peak against the Vietnamese dong at nearly VND23,900 Monday, having gained 4.1% this year.

Vietcombank hiked the rate by 0.1% from the weekend to VND23,870.

This means the state-owned lender has raised its rate by 0.85% within two weeks and 4.1% from the beginning of the year.

BIDV increased the rate by 0.06% to VND23,865.

The central bank fixed the rate at VND23,334, up 0.8% from the beginning of the year.

The USD Index, which measures the greenback strength against major currencies, has risen 0.18% Monday to 113.4 points.

The South Korean won dropped to 1,420 won per dollar for the first time in 13 years, while the British pound plunged to a record low.
