Dollar dips marginally at commercial banks

The U.S. dollar on Thursday depreciated for the second time by 0.2% to VND24,877 after a strong gaining streak in the last several weeks.

At Vietcombank the dollar has weakened against the dong by 0.4% since Tuesday. Still, the greenback is 8.5% stronger since the beginning of the year.

The dollar is sold 0.02% lower at Eximbank at VND24,875, and 0.03% lower at Techcombank at VND24,875.

The State Bank of Vietnam lowered the reference by 0.02% Thursday to VND23,693.

At unofficial exchange rates, however, the greenback gained 0.18% to VND25,325.

The USD Index, which measures the greenback’s strength against major currencies, rose 0.06% to 109.77 points, still hovering around a two-decade high.
