Vietnamese-American singer wins Grammy Award

Sangeeta Kau received the award for her performance on the album 'Mythologies' composed by Danae Vlasse, featuring Kaur and Israeli vocalist Hilla Plitmann.

The two surpassed many nominees in the operatic acts like Will Liverman, Joyce DiDonato, Jamie Barton and Laura Strickling to claim the top prize at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards show in Las Vegas, the U.S. on April 3, 2022.

On stage to receive the award, Kaur thanked her team, family and fans who loved her music.

"This album is made of friendship, love. It is proof that people can create miracles from love. Let's put love into our music," she said.

According to Operawire, a publication dedicated to the world of opera, Kaur is the first singer of Vietnamese origin to have been nominated and won this category.

Sangeeta Kaur's birth name is Mai Xuan Loan. She was born and raised in the U.S.

She graduated with opera performance degree from Bob Cole Conservatory of California State University Long Beach and a master's degree from the top-performing art college Boston Conservatory in Berklee.

She has released five albums - Niguma, Ascension, Mirrors, Compassion and Illuminance.

She was influenced by Indian philosophy, mainly pursuing Opera and meditation music. Since 2009, she has adopted the Indian stage name Sangeeta Kaur, which means Princess of Music and Harmony.

On Sangeetakaurmusic, her personal website, the singer said: "My life's mission is to create and share music, bringing joy and positive energy to listeners".
