Citing reports from Chinese media, 8days reported that a customer who purchased a second-hand Louis Vuitton bucket bag from Chen’s livestream claimed that the item appeared significantly different from the online images when it was delivered. Suspecting the bag to be a fake, the customer took it to an authentication agency for verification, they said.
Two experts from the agency expressed doubts about the bag’s authenticity, with one declaring it to be a counterfeit, according to the customer. The customer later received a refund after multiple rounds of communication with Chen’s team.
In response to the allegations, Chen assembled a team to investigate the claims. She argued that the team’s examination indicated that the bag contained a chip and the serial number confirmed its authenticity.
She also mentioned that she had contacted the inspection agency that declared the bag counterfeit. Under Chinese law, counterfeit items are usually accompanied by an official certificate confirming their status. However, Chen argued that no such certificate had been provided for the bag in question.
Addressing the controversy on social media, Chen defended herself, saying: "Malicious competition within the industry is common, and spreading rumors is easy while refuting them is exhausting."
She also called on the public to "give time for the truth to come to light" and stressed the importance of maintaining a fair and trustworthy consumer environment.
Chen, 42, began her career as a child actress in the 1993 drama "Lan Se De Xiang Wang." She has since appeared in notable works including "The Empress of China," "The Rise of Phoenixes," and "Flourished Peony."
