The index closed 4.68 points higher after gaining 2.44 points in the previous session.
Trading on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange decreased by 3% to VND20.812 trillion (US$817.2 million).
The VN-30 basket, comprising the 30 largest capped stocks, saw 12 tickers gained.
GVR of Vietnam Rubber Group saw the biggest growth of 7.0%, followed by BCM of Becamex Investment and Industrial Development with a 4.8% increase, and PLX of fuel distributor Petrolimex, up 3.4%.
Twelve blue chips fell. VRE of retail real estate arm Vincom Retail went down 2.3%, SAB of brewer Sabeco slid 1.0%, and CTG of state-owned lender VietinBank closed 0.9% lower.
Foreign investors were net seller to the tune of VND600 billion, mainly selling TCB of private lender Techcombank and MSB of the Vietnam Maritime Commercial Join Stock Bank.
The HNX-Index for stocks on the Hanoi Stock Exchange, home to mid and small caps, fell 0.21%, while the UPCoM-Index for the Unlisted Public Companies Market went down 0.02%.
