The Hyundai Creta has surpassed its competitor Kia Seltos in sales for a fourth consecutive month in April.

The Seltos had been top dog in the compact SUV B segment until 2023.

In the overall compact SUV market, sales fell by 23% with a total of 4,327 vehicles sold.

In the B and C segments, the Kia Sonet and the Toyota Corolla Cross maintained their leads.

In the A segment, the smallest, Vinfast’s VF 5 electric car made its debut in April, selling 36 vehicles.

With 604 cars sold, the Sonet remained ahead of the Toyota Raize, which sold 509.

In the B segment, the Creta sold 637 units, down 40% from March. The Seltos declined by 25% to 570 units.

The Creta usurped the top spot this year because of a new design and lower prices, which has attracted customers.

The segment also includes the Honda HR-V and Mazda CX-3, both with modern designs, but high prices act as a drag on their sales.

In the C segment, the Toyota Corolla Cross remained dominant with sales of 1,310 units.

It also topped the overall compact SUV chart, and was the only one to cross the 1,000-unit sales mark.

The Mazda CX-30 trailed far behind in the C segment with less than 600 cars sold.

In the year-to-date, Toyota had a 40% share of the overall compact SUV market with the Raize and Corolla Cross selling 6,915 units. The Japanese giant plans to debut a new compact SUV in August, the Yaris Cross.

Following Toyota was Kia, with its Sonet and Seltos accounting for a 27% market share with sales of 4,661.

Hyundai was third with its sole representative, the Creta, selling 3,284 units to account for a 19% market share.
