Sales and IT are expected to be Vietnam’s leading sectors in workforce demand this year, with a noticeable increase compared to last year, a study has found.

Sales remained the sector with the highest demand for employees for the third year in a row, according to the 2024-2025 Recruitment Trends report by recruitment company TopCV.

Many businesses which prioritize market growth and business expansion look for sales candidates with two or three years of experience, and they have high demand for recruitment in March-April and July-August.

However, 22% of businesses surveyed said they would layoff salespeople first should a downsize is required.

IT employees with two or three years of experience are also in high demand, but more than half of businesses (55%) report difficulties in recruiting high-skilled people.

Half of them notice a strong competition for IT employees, especially from large corporations and startups, which offer attractive pay and comfortable work environment.

IT staff with foreign language skills are even more sought after, with demand for them rising 35% year-on-year in the first 10 months last year.

They study pointed out that there seems to be a gap between expectations of employees and employers.

Around 68% of employees list compensation as their top priority, while only 22% of businesses consider this a critical factor.

This discrepancy highlights the need for businesses to align with workers’ expectations regarding benefits, training, and career progression, the study said.

Nearly a third of businesses (34%) expect 31-50% of their employees to be able to adopt AI in their jobs.

But two-thirds of them affirmed that critical thinking and creativity remain key priorities for personal development, which are criteria that AI does not excel in.
