Though some lawmakers have expressed concern that the target is too high since the government would still have to grapple with the pandemic next year, deputy chairman of the National Assembly, Phung Quoc Hien, said Wednesday the government is determined to achieve it.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc told the National Assembly on Tuesday that the 6 percent growth target is "modest" considering the country’s potential.
The government is creating various growth scenarios and action plans since the Covid-19 situation remains unpredictable, he added.
With the pandemic stifling economic activity, Vietnam has set a revised GDP growth target of 2-3 percent this year, down from the 7.02 percent it achieved last year.
