Russian energy firm Zarubezhneft, a partner of state-owned Petrovietnam for 40 years, is seeking to invest in offshore wind power in Vietnam.

Its CEO, Kudryashov Sergei Ivanovich, who met Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in Hanoi Monday, apprised him about the plans and also sought government intervention for overcoming some hurdles faced by the company’s existing projects in Vietnam.

Chinh gave his approval and said the company should establish a joint task force with Petrovietnam to deal with challenges in their joint ventures.

Vietnam has the highest wind power potential in Southeast Asia of 513,000 MW, according to a World Bank assessment.

The country targets 6,000 MW of offshore wind power capacity by 2030.
