Vietnam’s aquatic exports have maintained stable growth and are expected to hit a new record this year despite facing challenges.

Shipments topped US$10.5 billion in the first 11 months of 2025, up 14.6% year-on-year, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers.

Of these, shrimp generated $4.31 billion, up 21.2% from a year ago, and remained the key growth driver; pangasius accounted for over $2 billion, a 9% increase; tuna made up $855.7 million.

Exports of molluscs, marine fish and value-added products all saw double-digit growth.

Countries in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) accounted for the lion's share of aquatic exports, at 27.2%. Exports to these markets grew 24.3% year-on-year during the period.

Shipments to China and the EU went up 30.6% and 11.9%, respectively, while those bound for the U.S. rose 8.1% to $1.78 billion.

Le Hang, the association's deputy general secretary, noted that in a global market still marked by volatility, these results reflect the proactive and flexible approach of exporters.

Aquatic exports are expected to drop slightly this month compared to November due to seasonal factors and increased caution among exporters trading with the U.S. Many businesses have temporarily limited new orders to that market pending official guidance on its Marine Mammal Protection Act.

However, shrimp shipments may see marginal impacts thanks to stable demand from Japan, the EU and CPTPP markets.

Based on the sector's performance so far and year-end prospects, aquatic exports will likely reach $11.2-11.3 billion, the highest level to date, according to Hang.

Shrimp exports alone are expected to top $4.6 billion, establishing a new record for the item, while pangasius shipments are forecast to surpass $2.1 billion on the back of recovered demand in Asia. Tuna exports are projected to exceed $900 million.
