Workers in the southeast region continue to earn the highest incomes nationwide at VND8.5 million ($364) a month in the second quarter, up 8.5 percent from the first.

Some localities in the region that recorded higher than average incomes were Ho Chi Minh City at VND9.1 million and Binh Duong Province at VND8.9 million, according to General Statistics Office (GSO).

These localities belong to a vibrant economic area with many workers in the industry and service sectors, and already recorded a 10 percent higher income than other localities before the pandemic, it said.

Incomes are also rising in other regions.

It grew by nearly 13 percent to VND5.8 million in the northern central and central coastal region.

A growth of 9.7 percent to 15.7 percent was recorded in Da Nang City, Khanh Hoa Province and Thua Thien Hue Province.

The average income of workers nationwide rose nearly 9 percent year-on-year to VND6.6 million.

Pham Hoai Nam, head of the population and worker department, said that the rising income shows that the economy is recovering from two years of Covid-19.

Data from the GSO also showed that around 8 million workers aged 15 and up were still affected by the pandemic in the second quarter.
