A Vietnamese agricultural company plans to sell cashew trees in Laos for at least VND142 million (US$5,600) and plow the money into expanding durian production next year.

DakLak Rubber Investment in Dak Lak Province in the Central Highlands has mandated its Laos subsidiary to sell the trees on a 36-hectare lot.

The company, which is listed on the Unlisted Public Company Market, wants to grow durian on a 239-ha farm in Laos’s southern province of Champasak by next year.

In the following two years it plans to add another 200 ha. DakLak Rubber Investment has been growing durian in Vietnam since 2018 on a 69-ha farm in Dak Lak.

The fruit fetched it almost VND18 billion in the third quarter, when it was the peak season, with a profit margin of 69%. It is expected to harvest a total of 300 tons of durian this year.

Vietnam exported $6.6 billion worth of vegetables and fruits in the first 11 months, with durian accounting for around 45%.
