Market authorities have found thousands of apparent knockoffs of Rolex, Gucci, Chanel, and other luxury brands at Saigon Square, a popular mall in HCMC.

Six inspection teams carried out a surprise raid at the mall in District 1 Thursday afternoon especially to examined clothes, bags, watches, glasses, and suitcases sold there.

Many kiosk owners quickly shut shop at the sight of the officials, and mall managers made an announcement about the raid on the public address system, which made the inspectors’ task even more difficult.

Nevertheless, they found products carrying the names of luxury brands at prices much lower than at official stores.

They seized all goods that seemed like fakes to safeguard consumers’ interests and the reputation of brands registered for protection in Vietnam, the investigators said.

Founded in 2000, Saigon Square has earned a reputation as a "shopping paradise" popular with both locals and tourists for its broad selection of merchandise.
