A company spokesperson confirmed to VnExpress that he died Thursday and his funeral would be held in Hanoi.
The company is being operated by his son Doan Quoc Huy, who is deputy chairman and CEO.
Viet graduated in mechanical engineering from a Hanoi university and proceeded to study energy in Vietnam and Poland.
He started his own company, BIM Co., in 1989 in Poland with interests in trading, hotels and restaurants.
He returned to Vietnam in 1994 and started BIM Group with its first project being the Ha Long Plaza hotel.
It now has four main businesses: hospitality infrastructure construction, agriculture and food, renewable energy, and consumer services.
Its completed projects include the Park Hyatt Phu Quoc Residences, Regent Phu Quoc and InterContinental Phu Quoc Long Beach Resort.
It produces salt in the central region and accounts for 60-70% of Vietnam’s industrial salt production.
At its salt farm in Ninh Thuan Province is a 500 MW solar and wind power complex, which began operations in 2021.
