Pham Manh Thang, acting CEO of private lender PGBank, was appointed as the bank’s chairman at an extraordinary shareholders' meeting on Monday.

Before becoming PGBank’s acting CEO in early July, Thang worked as a deputy general director of state-owned lender Vietcombank, and then retired in May.

Born in 1962, Thang has a PhD in Economics and has more than 30 years of experience working in the banking and finance sector.

In addition to approving the Board of Directors and Supervisory Board’s Personnel Plan for the 2020 - 2025 term, the meeting also approved a plan to increase charter capital two years earlier than requested by the Prime Minister and the central bank.

PGBank said its pre-tax profit was VND360 billion in the first nine months of this year, a year-on-year decrease of 7% due to the overall difficulties faced by the banking sector in the third quarter.
