Nokia has signed an agreement with a Vietnamese telecom firm to install its 5G equipment in 2,500 locations across 22 provinces this year.

The Finish company said it would deploy its 5G AirScale portfolio, all powered by its energy-efficient ReefShark System-on-Chip technology.

The deal aims to support the Vietnamese firm's 5G infrastructure development, digital transformation and 4G infrastructure modernization, it said.

For the first time in Vietnam a 5G network would use products locally manufactured, underscoring its commitment to the region, it added.

The firm had announced in June that it was producing the AirScale product line at Foxconn’s factory in the northern Bac Giang Province for the Vietnamese and some neighboring markets.

Nokia said the 5G rollout would begin this year without disclosing a specific timeline.
