General director Preben Elnef said over 2,000 people are working directly at the construction site covering 44 hectares in Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park 3, and the number of construction workers will double by the end of this year.
The plant plans to have 100 employees this year and 500 by the end of next year, and create a total of 4,000 jobs over 15 years.
As of September 15, around 50,000 green trees had been planted in the campus. Over 12,500 solar panels with a total capacity of 7.4 megawatts will be installed on the plant’s roof, and a solar farm will be built on an adjacent piece of land to provide energy for the plant.
This is the sixth plant of the Danish toy company, and the second in Asia. It is Lego’s first carbon-neutral plant, using electricity from the rooftop solar cell panels and the nearby solar farm.
Lego opened its first Asian plant in China in 2016, and the Danish firm’s products are sold in over 130 markets.
