The VietBank board of directors has accepted the resignation of deputy general director Tran Thi Lam, who is also chairwoman of real estate firm Hoa Lam.

Lam, a founding shareholder of VietBank, which was incorporated in 2006, resigned for undisclosed "personal" reasons. The lender’s chairman is her son, Duong Nhat Nguyen.

Lam owns 114,000 shares of Vietbank, equivalent to a 0.02% stake, Nguyen owns nearly 28 million shares, or 4.83%, and Lam’s husband, Duong Ngoc Hoa, has 21.7 million shares, or 4.55%.

Earlier this year Nguyen acquired nearly 12 million shares by buying and exercising stock options when the bank increased its capital.

As of last year Vietbank had total assets of VND138 trillion (US$5.75 billion). It had loans outstanding of VND80 trillion. It achieved net profits of VND647 billion in 2023, a 20% jump from the previous year.

Hoa Lam, founded in 1993, also has interests in healthcare, pharmaceuticals and finance-banking.
