Nguyen Dai Cuong, director of Ha Long City Electricity, has been suspended until further notice.

The Quang Ninh Power Company (PC Quang Ninh), its parent company which manages power supply in northern Quang Ninh Province, including Ha Long, home to the renowned Ha Long Bay, said the suspension was not related to his absence from grid repair sites in recent days.

Cuong, who became the director of the Ha Long unit in 2020, will remain at work to oversee the repair of damages caused by typhoon Yagi. But a temporary replacement for him has been named.

Yagi made landfall last Saturday and caused severe damage to medium- and low-voltage power grids in the north, resulting in power outages at over three million houses and businesses.

The 110 kV power grid in Quang Ninh was nearly paralyzed, leading to outages all over the province. Over 250 utility poles were toppled in Ha Long, which has over 110,000 electricity users.

PC Quang Ninh reports it restored power to 30% of consumers within three days.
