Lam, 46, who was appointed Friday, has been working at the state-owned lender for 23 years.
He became deputy director of the credit risk management department in 2009, and director in 2012.
He became a branch head in October 2010 and director of the corporate customer department in 2013.
He took over as deputy director of the bank in 2015.
BIDV is the second largest bank by assets behind another state-owned lender Agribank.
South Korea’s KEB Hana Bank owns a 15 percent stake in it.
