The cheapest prepaid 5G subscription costs VND135,000 ($5.41) a month in Vietnam, almost twice that of 4G, but offers eight times more data and other benefits.

The first company to launch 5G services, Viettel, is offering 19 subscription options, with the cheapest giving users 120 GB of data.

4G users get 15 GB in the cheapest option that costs VND70,000.

For VND300,000, a 4G user gets 150 GB but a 5G user gets double that, with free YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, and Spotify thrown in.

The highest 5G prepaid option of VND480,000 which offers users 600 GB of data.

The military-owned company launched commercial 5G service Tuesday, and said that it has erected 6,500 stations around the country.

Users can access 5G services with their old 4G SIM card. Other telecom firms have also joined the 5G race.

Vinaphone is trialing free 5G in some places, and MobiFone plans to roll out the service next month.

5G, with its ultra-low latency, is expected to support activities that demand instant responses such as self-driving cars, remote surgeries, smart factory controls, and virtual reality classrooms.
