Warren Buffett was born in 1930 in Omaha, Nebraska, the U.S. He is the chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, widely known as the "Oracle of Omaha" for his timeless value investing strategy.
Buffett has pledged to donate 99% of his wealth to charity and has already given away more than US$60 billion, mainly through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. He also co-founded the "Giving Pledge," which calls on billionaires worldwide to commit a majority of their wealth to philanthropy.
He donated a record $6 billion worth of Berkshire Hathaway shares to the Gates Foundation and four family charities. He is the 10th richest man in the world with a net worth estimated at $144.8 billion as of Aug. 20.
