Singer Chi Pu was praised by the Chinese media and audiences for her skills after her performance in the hit reality show “Sisters Who Make Waves” was aired.

The Vietnamese singer and dancer Xie Xin performed the Chinese version of the song "Swing" in the show’s episode that aired Friday.

While Xie showed her strength through acrobatic moves, Chi Pu impressed viewers with her pole dancing skills.

According to Xie, Chi Pu practiced pole dancing so hard that she got bruises all over her body, which made her admire the Vietnamese singer. She even fell to the ground on her back once during a practice session, yet said her bruises were "nothing," as she chose what she was getting into.

She added that she felt happy practicing and performing, as it was for herself and her fans.

Chi Pu received a score of 506 for her impressive performance, beating Xie who got 479. The hashtag "Chi Pu explodes" was widely used after the episode aired, and articles relating to her on China’s Weibo platform attracted over 110 million views.

A producer of the show said that Chi Pu and Xie upgraded the quality of the show.

A Sina article said the two "set fire" to the stage, under which Weibo user Zongyi commented: "Chi Pu’s effort left the viewers touched. She was still optimistic despite getting injured, and she proved that she could overcome hardships."

The acclaim shows how Chi Pu has become acknowledged as the show progressed. The Vietnamese singer recalled during her livestream on Wednesday that during the first shooting day, while her fellow competitors received applause and screams from viewers on-site, she got a silent reaction as nobody knew who she was.

But after every episode of the show, she realized through viewer reactions that they had started to recognize her, which made her try even harder.

"I used to be shy and worried, but everything has been fine up until now," she said.

Chi Pu is a renowned Vietnamese actress and pop singer. She was honored on the Forbes’ list of the Asia Pacific's 100 most influential digital stars in 2020.

Produced by Mango TV since its premiere in 2020, "Sisters Who Make Waves" is a reality show in which female celebrities over 30 compete against each other to win a place in a seven-member girl group.

The show won Best Reality Show at the 2020 Douyin Entertainment Awards.
