By the end of Thursday, 960 delegations with around 40,000 people came to the Lai Da Cultural House in Hanoi's Dong Anh District to pay respect to Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong. Most of them came from within Hanoi themselves and other northern Vietnam localities, while some came from HCMC, Can Tho or Kien Giang in the south.

Despite the heavy rain in HCMC on Thursday evening, people still lined up before the Reunification Palace in District 1 to attend the mourning ceremony of Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong. More and more people came as it got darker.

By 5 p.m. Thursday, 627 delegations and 16,210 people came to the mourning ceremony at the Reunification Palace. People would be allowed to come to pay their tribute from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday, and 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday.

There's an hour left before residents are allowed to enter the National Funeral Home at No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong to pay respect to Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong, but the streets around the site have already been packed with people, mostly students, young people and those coming home from work.
As people gathered during the rush hour, traffic police officers and local police forces were present for coordination.
